Can deep strategy really work on a touchscreen?

Can deep strategy really work on a touchscreen?

Strategy fans are rightly suspicious of mobile. Small screens and fat fingers seem like the enemy of careful planning. But a few games have quietly figured it out.

The winners keep information one tap away and use pause generously. Iron Tide Command lets you freeze a battle and think, which turns your phone from a limitation into a portable war room.

The losers cram a desktop interface onto a phone and hope for the best. If you're squinting and mis-tapping, no amount of depth will save the experience.

My advice: judge a strategy game by its interface first. If you can read the board and issue orders comfortably, the depth underneath has room to shine.
